ITSS@Durham Email service for schools.
The email system makes every possible electronic effort to stop
inappropriate and unsuitable emails getting through to your account.
However from time to time emails may evade the system. Should this happen
to you please forward the offending email to itss@durhamlea.org.uk - thank
you.
- This service is provided by Durham County Council.
- ITSS@Durham is the ICT support unit for the Education Department of Durham County Council.
- The service is intended for pupils and teachers in Durham schools so that they may meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.
- The service is web based i.e. it uses internet browser software and can thus be accessed from any machine connected to the internet. Pupils and teachers can, therefore access the system from home, local community centres and libraries wherever there is a computer connected to the internet.
Users of the system may not:
- Use abusive or inappropriate language to one another or about one another.
- Use the system to try and send inappropriate messages or pictures to one another, this includes autoreply systems.
- Use the system for business purposes.
- Use the system to make arrangements for inappropriate activities.
An electronic filtering and logging system checks each email in to the system.
Response to inappropriate use:
Pupil and Class Accounts:
- If an email breaks the above rules and has been sent by a Durhamlea user, the email will not be delivered and the sender will receive an email indicating the reasons for non delivery.
- Should the email originate outside durhamlea.org.uk it will not be delivered.
Teacher Accounts:
- If an email breaks the above rules it will be delivered to the Spam Folder of the teacher account, so that the user can decide if they wish to receive this type of mail (Spam or offensive). The user can delete their Spam folder at any time using the options->tools menu. Doing this will mean the user receives no more spam or offensive mail, but runs the risk of missing the occasional legitimate email.
Click here for further information about the practicalities of the filtering system.
Notes:
- Users give the staff of ITSS@Durham the right to monitor mail that breaks the above rules.
- Staff of ITSS@Durham will comply with any reasonable request from Headteachers or Chairs of Governing bodies for information about use of the system by staff or pupils from their school where there is evidence of mis-use.
- Occasionally a situation may arise where the electronic filtering system incorrectly identifies an email as not to be delivered. ITSS will monitor this situation and adjust filtering trigger levels so that the occurrences of this situation are kept to a minimum.
